The Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C.. returned from Auckland by the Limited express yesterday. Mr. T. H. Lbe and Mr. XV. Jones. Reefton. and Mr. 11. R. Ponder, Christchurch, are at the Royal Oak Hotel. Col. R. St. J. Beere went to the South Island last evening. He exneets to return to Wellington at the week-end. Sir Harold Beauchamp and Lady Beauchamp were passengers to Auckland by the Limited express last night. Mr. W. A. Scott, of Oriental Parade, will leave by the Mekura on Tuesday next on a health-recruiting visit to Tahiti. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt has been appointed chairman of the Wellington branch of the English-Speaking Union for the seventh, time. Canon Staples Hamilton, vicar of St. Albans, Christchurch, proposes to retire at the end of the vear. He has spent his whole ministry, 49 years, in the Christchurch diocese, receiving his canonry in 1913.
