EMPIRE AND TRADE

An Agreement Hoped For LOOKING TO THE FUTURE Ottawa, August 3. Parliament has been prorogued. The Speech from the Throne said: “The commercial agreement that has been negotiated with Australia will, I confidently believe, be of advantage to both our countries,- This agreement manifests the desire of my Government to enter into similar trade agreements with other parts of the Empire. “The Imperial Economic Conference, which was adjourned last November to reassemble at Ottawa in the latter part of the current year, has been postponed because of circumstances which have -prevented the representation at the Conference of all the Dominions of the Empire. “It is confidently believed that when this Conference reassembles an Empire Trade Agreement of advantage to all of Its parts may be consummated.”
