Assistant Commissioner CHANGE ANNOUNCED After having represented his country here for the past three years, Mr. C. F. Kunkel, Assistant American Trade Commissioner for New Zealand, will return to the United States in September. Mr. Kunkel formerly held a commission as a pilot in the United States Aviation Corps, and prior to his appointment to New Zealand in 1928 was stationed in Chile. During his term in New Zealand he has become very popular with the business community, among whom he has many friends. He has taken a keen
interest in the development of aviation in New Zealand, and is well known to most of those connected with flying in the Dominion. A keen golfer, Mr. Kunkel is a member of the Titahi Bay club. He will go to the United States via India, Egypt and Europe, but it is not known definitely whether he will return to New Zealand. Mr. Kunkel, personally, is anxious to do so. Mr. Eugene West has been selected to fill the position which Mr. Kunkel will vacate, and will arrive in New Zealand shortly. Born in India, Mr. West took a degiee at Cambridge University, and, after going to America, gained a further degree at the University of Ohio. He served in the United States Marine Corps flpring the war, and returned to India later, acting as the representative for a big American firm there for six years. Mr. West, who wi.s appointed an Assistant Trade Commissioner in the American Department of Commerce last year, will be accompanied by his wife and child, and will be a resident of Wellington. <
