Some Keen Rugby Contests SOCCER, HOCKEY AND GOLF The match between Hutt and Eastbourne on Athletic Park provides the main attraction in the Rugby competitions to-day. The result of the match will have an important bearing on the championship table. Another interesting match will be that between Wellington College Old Boys and Wellington at' Newtown Park. Poneke and Marist will play on the Hutt ground. The other senior A matches are Miramar v. Petone, at Petone; Oriental v. University, at Prince of Wales Park;-Berlmmpore-Ath-letic, at Athletic Park, early. In the senior B grade St. Patrick’s Old Boys play Johnsonville, at Johnsonville ; Hutt v. Onslow, Nairnville; Porirua ,v. Oriental, Porirua ; Wellington College Old Boys v. University. Wakefield Park: Training College y. Melrose; Lyall Bay 1; Selwyn v. Upper Hutt, Maidstone Park. Association Football. In the Soccer code four division- 1 championship matches will be played today. Marist and Waterside meet at the Basin Reserve, Seatoun will travel to Petone, W.Y.M.I. will meet Diamonds at the Stadium, while Thistle will try and shake Hospital from the top rung of the ladder. Interesting curtain-raisers have been arranged. League Football. Two Rugby League games will be played at the Winter Show Stadium. Newtown B will play the Reserves at 1.45, and the Reps, will meet the Rest at 3 p.m. Hockey. Three games in the senior A hockey championship will be played. Varsity will meet Wesley and Wellington will try conclusions against Y.'M.C.A. on Karori Park, and Karori and Hutt will oppose each other on the Hutt Recreation Ground. All men's hockey matches arranged to be played at Kilbirnie have been postponed on account of the state of the ground. Women’s Hockey. Women's hockey Championship matches will be continued this afternoon at Newtown Park, Tanera Crescent, Pirie Street, Karori, Hutt, Petone, Porirua, and Upper Hutt. The two main attractions at Newtown will be between Hula and Training College, and Swifts and University; while the meeting of the unbeaten Hospital eleven and the vastly-im-proved Upper Hutt team, which has only lost one match, at Tanera Crescent is causing much interest. Golf. An inter-club match will be played this afternoon between Shandon and Waiwetu on the Waiwetu links. The second qualifying rounds for the senior, intermediate and junior championships of the Titahi club will be got off this afternoon, and the qualifying round for the Stone-Alward Cup (handicaps of 21 and over) will also be played. A qualifying round over 36 holes for the Sievwright Cup will be played on the Mornington links. The Shandon and Waiwetu ladies clubs will play a match on the Shandon links. The Shandon ladies’ club will play a one-club competition for Miss Oughton’s trophy during the week-end. A Canadian foursome will be played at Miramar. The Manor Park ladies’ club will play the first round of a Yankee fourball match during the week-end. Harriers. Wellington harrier clubs will continue with their usual weekly runs to-day. Hutt Valley and Wellington will meet in a combined run from the Evans Bay Yachting Club’s pavilion. The Olympic club’s run will be. held from the Kelburn Kiosk. Afternoon tea and dancing will complete the day’s outing. ' . The Scottish harriers will run from the surf sheds, Island Bay.
