Wellington’s Jubilee Dock DEPARTURE FROM TYNE A cable message was received by the Wellington Harbour Board yesterday from Clark and Standfield, its consulting engineers, stating that the Jubilee floating dock left the Tyne on Wednesday morning, on its way to Wellington. It is understood that three tugs, belonglong to the Dutch firm of L. Smit and Co., of Rotterdam, are towing the huge structure, which measures 584 feet in length, 117 feet 6 inches in breadth. The draught of the dock will probably be about five feet It is coming by way of the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, and Terres Strait, and the tow will be the longest on record.
The dock is expected to arrive at Wellington. all going well, some time in January. The builders, Swan, Hunter and Wighain Richardson, Ltd., contracted to deliver the dock at Wellington. The cost of delivery, including insurance and other incidental charges, is stated to be about £60,000 in round figures, or nearly oneZhird of the total contract price.
