. COST OF LIVING. WELLINGTON BU S INESSM AN’S OPINION. SPECIAL TO “DOMINION” READERS. Some time ago the Wellington public had an opportunity of expressing their views as to whether the cost of living had come down in accordance with the wage reductions that had taken place. Several businessmen of this city were approached, and in nearly all cases they had to admit that the costs of nearly all commodities had dropped considerably, and in the case of one line of goods -namely, footwear—it is very obvious that a great reduction has taken place. Some time ago people had to pay about 25/- to 35/- for a nice smart pair of shoes. Now, since the Wholesale Boot Co. came to Wellington some time ago people of this city are able to buy footwear at at least 40 per cent, lower than previously. The 'manager of the firm stated, when approached by “The Dominion” representative, that his answer was: Ask the people to call at either of the ■Wholesale Boot Co. stores in Courtenay Place or Bond Street and they can judge for themselves.
