Leaders Reach Deadlock A TIE ON SECOND DAY (Rec. July 6, 5.5 p.m.) New York, July 5. In the open golf championship final at Toledo, Von Elm sank a 12-foot putt on the home green to-day, bringing about a deadlock in the second straight day with Burke. The pair tied with 149 strokes, and will play 36 holes to-day. Other leaders were in the following order: — Diegel, 294; Mehlhorn, Gene Sarazen and Cox, each 296; T. Phillips, Perkins, the New York amateur, Hagen and Dutra, each 297; Smith, Farrell and Espinosa, each 299; Walsh and Paulsen, each 300. Other scores were: Alliss, 315; Davies, 317; Robson, 54, total 229 (withdrew) ; Ernest Whitcombe, 54, total 236 (withdrew) ; Armour, 315.
