BRILLIANT SCHOLAR

Noted Mathematician Dead Hobart, July 6. The death is announced of Professor Alexander McAulay, one of the world’s most brilliant mathematicians, at the age of 68. He was- a leading authority on the Theory of Quaternions. Born at Luton and educated in Manchester and at Cambridge Professor McAulay was tutor and lecturer at Ormond College, Melbourne from 1888 to 1892 and afterwards Research Professor of the University of Tasmania. He retired in 1929. His only son is Professor of Physics at the University of Tasmania.
