NO. 5 SCHEME
Fewer Men to be Employed COMMITTEE’S QUANDARY The Wellington Unemployment Committee, which has been assisting in the operation of the No. 5 scheme under harassing conditions, has received notification from the Unemployment Board to reduce ‘ the number of men employed, and to take on no new men. There are now some 700 men eligible for employment under the scheme, but they cannot be taken oh owing to financial restrictions. A meeting of the unemployment committee has been called for .11 a.m. today, when an endeavour will be made to find some way out of the difficulty. The Wellington members of Parliament have been asked to attend.
