NUMEROUS GUESTS

Consul-General for U.S. RECEPTION AT MIDLAND ' Flags of the United States of America and New Zealand draped the hall and dining-room at the- Midland Hotel on Saturday afternoon, when a delightful reception was given by the Consul-General for the United States, Mr. C. M. Hitch, and Mrs. Hitch. Attractive small tables set" round the room were decorated with tiny silk flags and flowers, and at them individual parties of guests talked and had tea. An extremely bright orchestra played jaunty American airs. During the playing of ‘‘God Save the King” and ‘‘The StarSpangled Banner” the whole assemblage stood to attention. Mrs. Hitch wore a becoming frock of black Freiich lace under a short basqued velvet coat, and a black velvet off-the-face hat finished with lavender orchids.
