SOCIAL NOTES

Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery, Wellington, are visiting Christchurch. Lady Roberts, Lower Hutt, who has been staying at Port Chalmers, has returned home. Mrs. A. Rattray', Redcliffs,.-, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs. Kent, Eastbourne. Lady Herdman, Auckland, who has been visiting Wellington, has gone on to Christchurch and is staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs. J. Bigg-Wither, Christchurch, has arrived in Wellington en route for Auckland, where she will stay with Mrs. H. Satchell. Mrs. Harnc (Peru) will leave Christchurch to-night for Wellington, where she will spend several days before visiting her sis£er, Mrs. Gordon, Hawke’s Bay. Miss Stops (England), voluntary adviser to the women’s institutes, who has been staying with Mrs. P. A. Elworthy (“Gordon’s Valley," Timaru), is now the guest of Miss Withell (Otipua). Miss W. Averill (Auckland), who has been visiting Dunedin and Christchurch, .where she was the guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Averill, has arrived in Wellington, where she will spend a few days before leaving for Hastings to visit her brother. Many friends of former days have had an opportunity during the past week of entertaining Miss Ethel Morrison, leading lady in the J. C. Williamson company now playing at the' Grand Opera House. Mrs. Macarthy-Reid gave a charming luncheop party for Ijer, and Mrs. Pearce was hostebs at an afternoon tea party. Mrs. J. B. McEwan, Miss Pearce, and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ward have also entertained Miss Morrison. , ' Mrs. J. F. Drake (Otago) • provincial president) and Miss F. V. Finlayson (provincial secretary of the women’s division of the Farmers' Union), have arrived in Wellington to attend the annual Do-, minion conference of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union, which opens to-morrow. Otago branch delegates to the Dominion conference include Mrs. J. R. Webb (Cromwell), Mrs. J. Miller (Berwick), and Mrs. Wither (West Taieri).
