RAILWAY REVENUE

Figures for Seven Weeks NET YIELD FALLS 121 P-c. Net railway revenue in the Dominion for the period of over seven weeks from April 1 to May 23 last, was about 12J per cent, below the figure for the corresponding period last year. Gross revenue for the period was £1,071,103, and expenditure was £891,884. leaving a net revenue of £179,219. For the corresponding weeks of 1930 the total revenue was £1,298,082, and expenditure was £1,092,677. leaving a net revenue of £205,405. The passenger returns for the period show decreases in both first and second class rail travel, and in motor service patronage, as compared with last year. Passenger tickets for the three groups totalled 1,315.913 this year, as compared with 1,791,110 during the seven weeks in 1930. Season tickets decreased from 90.228 to 65,314. The period covered in this return brings railway finances to within a few days of the transfer of control to the Railway Board.
