Aviator’s Flight to Rome Rome, June 17. Captain Frank Hawks, flying from Croydon, covered the. journey to Rome in 4 hours 40 minutes. He returned to Croydon the same day. His great flight from London to Rome and return at an average speed, of 190 miles an hour is generally acclaimed. Hawks broke the world’s record each way, and established another record in doing it in one day.
