Threatening Weathei; JUDGES’ AWARDS Sheepdog Championship ■ Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 18. The main feature of the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s National Dairy Show to-day was the competition for the North Island Sheep Dog Trlal Show Ring Championship, which drew thirty-three entries from all parts of the North Island. The exhibits in the association’s commodious halls continue to attract the attention of visitors, and during the afternoon there was a steady stream through the stalls and exhibits. An exhibit that has attracted much attention from the farming section of the community is the Department of Agriculture’s extensive display, In which the seven stages in grassland progress from the forest burn to . the first-class pasture, various species of grasses, ensilage, and other stock fodders, are displayed and explained by officers of the department The department has also another exhibit dealing with wool. The first prize baconer, a BerkehireTamworth cross, exhibited by Mr. Davidson, was farrowed on June 7, 1930, and was sty-fed on buttermilk. The live weight of the animal was l»41b, the dressed hot weight 1491 b, and the dressed cold weight 1451 b. The percentage of loss from cold to cured weights was 22.76 per cent. The second placed animal, alee of the same breed as the first placed pig, and owned by the same breeder, was farrowed on the same date, and fed under similar conditions. The animal’s live weight was 2041 b, while the loss from cold weight t» cured was 28i per cent. The same breeder also secured the third place with a similar breed of animal. The weather for to-day’s show'was dull and threatening, bnt no rain fell during the, morning or afternoon sessions. The gate-takings for yesterday show a decrease of £l3O/7/9 on those of last year. Tire gate-takings yesterday for turnstile# and grandstand amounted to £482/14/-, compared with £613/1/9 for the 1930 National Dairy Show. The North Island sheep dog trial show ring championship resulted:—C. B. Davig (Maharahara), 1; M. Harris’s (Mataroa) Kep, 2; A. M. Curry's (Woodville) Sweep, 3.
