In the stream —Putikl. i PACIFIC SERVICE Matson Line Sailings Among the passengers by the Marama from Sydney this week was Mr. N. S. Walker, personal representative ot the Matson Line. He has come from Melbourne to act as the New Zealand representative for the American Steam Ship Company, with headquarters in Auckland. Mr. Walker said the steamer which would inaugurate the service between San Francisco, Auckland and Sydney would be 'the Sonoma, which was scheduled to leave San Francisco at 10 a.m. on Thursday. July 2. Her ports of call would be Honolulu. Pago Pago. Suva. Auckland and Sydney. She was due here at 7 a.m. on Friday. July 24, and would sail for Sydney at’s p.m. the same day. She was due at Sydnev on Tuesday at 8 a.m. The return lournev would be commenced at 2 p.m. on August 4. and the Sonoma would arrive at Auckland at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 8. leaving again for San Francisco, via way porta, at 5 p.m. the same day. The Sonoma. Ventura anft sierra would maintain the three-weekly service across the Pacific until the Matson Line's new steamers, which were being built specially for the trade, were ready to take it up. LONDON’S SHIPPING. During tho week ended April 24, 885 vessels, representing 861,359 net register tons, used the Port of London. Five hundred aiid twentv-three vessels (691,422'net register tons) were to and from colonial and foreign ports and 362 (169.937 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. Seven vessels discharged meat cargoes during the week: five from Australia and New Zealand, the Moreton Bay. the Narkunda, the Ruapehu, the Mamilius. and the Oronsav and two from South America, the Highland Chieftain and the Stuart Star. MARCH SHIPPING LOSSES. The Liverpool Underwriters’ Association s casualty returns for March record that one motor vessel of 738 tons and 25 steam vessels aggregating 47.959 tons 'were totally lost, as compared with 15 vessels and 19,354 tons In March last year, and 22 vessels and 59.928 tons in March. 1929. Of these total losses only four vessels of 4175 tons were British, the remainder being foreign owned. The partial losses numbered 636 as against 613 in March last year. 893 in March, 1929. and 593 in March. 1928. THE POLISH STATE FLEET. It is reported that the merchant fleet owned by the Polish Government is to be transferred to a private undertaking. The State owns ton large cargo ships nnd live passenger ships, and is interested financially in tho Polish-British Steamship Line and the Polish Transatlantic Line. The Polish Minister of Commerce has announced that the leading State shipping undertaking, the Zegluga Polska. Is to be converted into a public company.

The overhaul and survey of the ferry steamer Wahlne is nearing completion, and she is to resume in -the Wellington-Lyttel-ton service, leaving Lyttelton to-morrow evening. The Maori, which is due at Lyttelton to-morrow, will sail on her return trip to Wellington on Monday. The Maheno, after relieving both vessels, is to be withdrawn from the service on Sunday, and alio will proceed to Port Chalmers to be laid up. ROSERIC DUE TO-DAY. The Roserlc, of 4738 tons gross register, en route from Newcastle for Callao, Is putting in at Wellington for minor engine repairs. She will probably sail again tomorrow In continuation of her voyage. AYJIERIC SAILS. The Aymeric, which has been unloading phosphates in New Zealand, left Westport yesterday morning for.Makatea Island to load phoshates for Honolulu. MATAI’S MOVEMENTS. The Government steamer Matai was expected to have been at' Cuvier Island yesterday, and should be at Auckland to-day. From Auckland she visits the lights in the Hauraki Gulf. TH® WAIRUNA. The Union Company’s trans-Paclfic steamer Wairuna, which arrived at Dunedin from Lyttelton on Tuesday, will complete discharge at Melbourne and Sydney. Afterward the vessel will return to Pacific Coast ports, via Fiji, to load during September for New Zealand and Australia. THE SCHOONER HUIA. The Nobel auxiliary schooner Huia left Melbourne for Fremantle on June 10 with a cargo of timber. After discharge she is expected to return to Melbourne about June 30 to load explosives for Auckland and southern ports. GABRIELLA LEAVES MELBOURNE. Advice received by the Union Company states that the Gabriella was dispatched from Melbourne at noon on Saturday with general cargo for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth, and Greymouth. She is due at Auckland about Sunday. WAINUI LEAVES MELBOURNE. The Union Company advise that their Walnul left Melbourne on Wednesday for Bluff, Dunedin, and Wellington. She is due here on June 25, and sails on the following day on her return voyage for Melbourne via Bluff. She carries transhipments ex the Moreton Bay, Nakunda, and Chakrata. RUAHINE DISCHARGING. To conttnuei discharge of her homeward cargo, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Ruahlne Is due to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, being due here on Sunday. She will subsequently complete at New Plymouth. . SOMERSET ARRIVES LONDON. Advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Somerset, which left Wellington on May 3 for London via Halifax and’ Hook of Holland, arrived at her destination on June 17. KAIMAI AT GREYMOUTH. The Kalmal is due at Greymouth to-day to load coal for Wellington. She is due here about Monday. ROTORUA FOR HOM®. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua sailed for Southampton and London from Auckland at 3.20 p.m. yesterday, with passengers, mail, and cargo. She is proceeding via Pitcairn Island, Panama Canal, and Curacao. THE RANGITIKI. The Rangltiki Is still scheduled to sail for Southampton and London, via Panama, at daybreak to-morrow, with passengers, mail, and cargo. She is loading at the Pipitea Wharf. TEES FROM CHATHAMS. Radio advice has been received by Gardiner, Binnie, and Halliburton that the Tees was timed to leave the Chatham Islands yesterday for Wellington. She is due in port on Sunday. The Tees, which has been chartered by Holm and Co. to replace the Progress, will then take her running in the Dunedin-Wellington-New Plymouth-Port Waikato service. COPTIC IN PORT.
