FUSION OF PARTIES

Attitude of Farmers UNION’S RESOLUTION Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, June 18. Explanations of a statement made by Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., regarding political fusion at a meeting at Maxwell, were given by Mr. T. Currie, at a meeting of the Wanganui branch of the Farmers Union yesterday. The explanation was made after a question by Mr. G. Elliot of Feilding, who, Sir. Curne thought, wag entitled to an answer. Mr. Polson had said that “he had the unanimous resolution of the . Dominion executive of the Farmers Union behind him in any views he might express ion the question of fusion. ’ Mr. Currie had made inquiries and had communicated with Mr. Polson. Mr Polson had said that when he had made the state ment he intended to . read the resolution passed by the Dominion executive of the Farmers’ Union, but did not do so until later in the meeting. The was also published m the report of the meeting, and read as follows: “That in order to obtain a stable Government at this critical time in the Dominion’s history, this executive feels strongly the necessity tor a grouping in Parliament, of the representatives of moderate sections of the community, so that their political strength may be unitedly directed to such measures as are accessary to restore prosperity, and further, that the union deprecates , n nv action any party which may prejudice this result at the next election.
