GOLDEN KEY

£2OOO for Telegraphist ART UNION RESULT Full List of Winners First prize, of £2OOO in tlie Golden Key Art Union went to a ticket held by Mr. R. Cambie, of 19 Glenbervie Terrace, Wellington, at the draw on Saturday evening. He heard of his win by telephone a few minutes after the ticket had been drawn, and from that time onward was a difficult man to find. He was run finally to earth on the Thorndon station platform shortly before his departure for Auckland by the Limited express last availing. 1 Shy of publicity and with a quiet pleasant manner, Mr. Cambie is unmarried and in the late twenties. He is a telegraphist in the Central Post Office, Wellington, and has been with the department for a considerable number of years, most of which have been spent at Auckland and Wellington. A week’s holiday is due to him, and he proposes to spend it in the north, where, incidentally, his people live. The winning ticket was bought in Auckland while on holiday there a month or two ago. Mr. Cambie smilingly refused any further information about himself or his success. He had never won a prize in an art union before, and he did not know what he was going to do with the first prize when he had collected it. Successful Enterprise. The drawing, which was on the same system as those of other art. unions drawn in Wellington during the last 18 months, began at 5.15 p.m. in the conference hall at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute. It attracted a large attendance, and many people were standing in the recess leading to the main door of the hall. Before the drawing began, Mr. H. S. M. Quigley, secretary of the Dannevirke Agricultural and Pastoral Association, addressed the audience briefly. The art union, he said, which had been run in order to raise funds for the general purposes of the Dannevirke and Rotorua A. and P. Associations, would result very well. Longer Than Usual. The secretary and treasurer of the art union, Messrs. N. McArthur and B. L. Hammond respectively, played tiieir customary parts during the draw. Mr. A. W. Pyne represented the Department of Internal Affairs, by whose permission the art union was organised, and Sergeant G. F. Bonisch represented the Police Department. The .drawing took rather longer than usual, and the ticket winning first prize was the eightieth prize-winning ticket drawn. It came at the end of about two hours’ work, ten minutes after the second prize had been drawn. Third prize had been drawn half an hour or so previously. On a few of the butts names and places were found difficult to decipher, and it was possible for them to be read in more than one way. Names concerning whicTi such doubt exists as to correctness are enclosed in parentheses in the following complete list of prize-win-ners :— First Prize, of £2OOO. C 67389, Mr. R.
