Leader of Repertory Severely Burned A HEATER EXPLODES By Telegrapli—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. June 14, 5.5 p.m.) New York, June 12. A message from Weston, Connecticut, states that Miss Eva Le Galllenne, founder, director, and leading woman of New York’s famous Civic Repertory Theatre, Josephine Hutchinson, a member of her company, and a maid servant, were burned in the explosion of a gas heater in Miss Le Gallienne’s country home, when the latter attempted to heat water to give her dog a bath. ' Miss Le Gallienne was removed to hospital, where she will remain for a lengthy period. It is feared that she will be scarred from ' the serious burns on her face, shoulders, arms, chest, and thighs. An actress of international distinction, Miss Eva Le Gallienne, was born in London. She is 32 years of age, and has appeared in London, Paris, and New York. The Civic Repertory Theatre referred to in the cable message was opened in October, 1926.'
