TO CHEER HASTINGS

Wellington Band’s Visit EFFORTS APPRECIATED Dominion Special Service. .Hastings, June 14. The people of Hastings, by attending in large numbers at Victoria Square today, showed their appreciation of the kindness and generosity of the Port Nicholson Silver Band, which came to give concerts in the district during the weekend. The band travelled at its own expense, though it had some financial . assistance from sympathisers at Wellington, and purely from a wish, as the conductor said in a speech this afternoon, to add to the cheerfulness of the people. The action was appreciated to the fullest, as was the programme, which was so excellently played. The band was entertained to tea after the concert, and the mayor, Mr. G. F. Roach, spoke in terms of high praise of the thoughtfulness, as well as of its great performing ability.
