WHITE MUDGUARDS

The Petone and Lower Hutt by-laws agree in saying that a cyclist must carry a light half an hour after sundown, also a red rear reflector. The Lower Hutt Borough has a by-law which provides that all cycles must have their rear mudguards painted white. Such a by-law was suggested for Petone also, but has never been passed. It is considered that until Petone is prepared to join with Lower Hdtt in enforcing this by-law, which Is intended to give protection to cyclists and motorists alike, the full benefit and value of it will not be secured. In Lower Hutt itself there are a number of cycles without rear red reflectors and without painted mudguards, and a “Dominion” reporter was informed that the last warnings have been issued. The next breaches ■will be ventilated in the Magistrate’s Court.
