GUIDE TO EFFICIENCY
Chamber of Commerce Tests
PRIZES PRESENTED
It wojs an unusual sight to see ten girls seated at luncheon yesterday with leading businessmen, who are members of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The occasion was the annual presentation of prizes offered by the chamber to school girls, as an encouragement to perfect themselves in certain phases of commercial education. There were over uOO entries. In the absence of the president, Mr. U. J. B. Norwood, the chair was occupied by the vice-president, Mr. J. Pearce Luke, who after greeting the guests, referred to the primary object m the gathering—the presentation of the priz<s. He gave great credit to Mr. E. R. Keuden for the trouble he had taken in selecting the winners from so many entrants. Special prizes had been donated by Mr. Andrew Fletcher and Mr. M. M. Heinemann. Mr. Remien said that the praise, it any were needed, was due to the committee and their secretary. Mr. H. G. lan-child, and to Mr. J. H. Howell for the use of rooms at the Technical College in which to conduct the examinations. These examinations were really a link between commercial education authorities and the businessmen. As businessmen members of the chamber thought there should be some more stable guide to efficiency than was forthcoming from the principal of the school. For that reason he would like businessmen to support the chamber and give preference to certificate-holders. The prizes were then presented. Ibe Wi S ll '‘o e r , U>anA-jTssle L.
