“Essential at Present” Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, May 20. “Never before in (he history of New Zealand has the Farmers’ Union been more essential than at the present time,” said the chairman, Mr. T. Currie, at the annual interprovincial conference of the Farmers’ Union to-day, when a remit from Waimarino seeking a reduction in the amount of the annual subscription was being considered. "Mr. Currie said that the union was doing all that was possible in the interests of farmers. Members of labour unions paid £l/1/- a year to their unions, and he could not see where the-farmers could protest. Mr. Lynch said that the Farmers’ Union was one of the best insurances that any farmer could have. ■ The remit was lost.
