The Marine Department advises that the Hoklanga River bar now carries a uniform depth of 13ft. at M.L.W.S., witn the exception of a channel carrying 22ft. at M.L.W.S. , with the flagstaff bearing 113 degrees. This channel is difficult to work with any sea on, by reason of it being situated so far north and close to the Shore.

TEES CHARTERED

To Replace the Progress

Holm and Company have chartered the Chatham Islands steamer Tees to replace the wrecked Progress. After the Progress was wrecked Hohn and Co. chartered the motor-ship Inalia to take the Progress’s running until a more suitable vessel could be found. The Inaha returned to Wellington yesterday morning from New Plymouth and was handed back to her owners, the South” Taranaki Shipping Company. Captain A. F. Watchlin’s intercolonial motor-ship Port Waikato is making one trip to New Plymouth and Port Waikato for Holm and Co. She Is due at Wellington this morning from Lyttelton, and will leave again to-day for the northern ports. The Tee’s, which is at present laid up at Lyttelton for overhaul and survey, is to pick up her new running about the end of this month, and will remain under charter to Hohn and Co. until they are able to build or purchase a suitable vessel to replace the Progress. WAIRUNA REPORTS. The Union Company has received a wireless message from the Wairuna. en route from Los Angeles, reporting that she expects to reach Auckland on Sunday. She brings Pacific Coast cargo for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth. Wellington, Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney, and is due here on May 31. PORT FAIRY DELAYED. The C. and D. Line advises that its motor-ship Port Fairy has been delayed by rain at Auckland. She is now due at Wellington on Friday morning to discharge the local portion of her Liverpool cargo, and will leave here again on Saturday for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Nelson to complete discharge. THE TANKER LUCERNA. The Shell Oil Company has received advice that its chartered tanker Lucerna, which went ashore near Thursday Island when en route from Singapore to New Zealand, has been repaired, and is now due in New Zealand about the end of June. ZEALANDIC’S ALTERED ITINERARY. The Shaw, Savill Company advises that its motor-ship Zealandlc was to have left Gisborne yesterday for Lyttelton, Bluff, Port Chalmers and Wellington to complete her homeward loading. She is now due here on June 4 and is scheduled to clear this port finally on June C for London, via the Panama Canal.

RARANGA’S ITINERARY. The Shaw, Savill Company advises that the Raranga, which is due at Oamaru tomorrow from Australia to commence her homeward loading, is to leave there again on Sunday for Bluff, Port Chalmers, Timaru, Wellington and Napier to complete. She Is now due here on June 2 ana Is scheduled to clear Napier finally on June 6 .for London, via Montevideo. MAIMOA AT LONDON. The Shaw, Savill Company has received cabled advice that the Maimoa reached London last Saturday afternoon. She left Wellington on April 2 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow, via Montevideo and Teneriffe.

TAINUI AT SOUTHAMPTON. The Shaw, Savill Company has received cabled advice that its liner Tainui, which left Wellington on April 10 for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canal, reached Southampton last Saturday afternoon.

MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain B. B. Irwin is taking command of the Maheno at Lyttelton to-day. His deck officers will be: Chief, Mr- A. T. Adam; second, Mr. W. Cole; third, Mr. A. Haslam. ... Captain G. B. Morgan is taking temporary command of the Marama, and is to leave Wellington on Friday for Sydney. The* deck officers are:—Chief, Mr. N. J. Siepen; second, Mr. S. E. A. Smith; third, Mr. J. E. Broughton. ; Captain J. Howick has temporarily relieved Captain L. Larsen as master of the Kuku. Mr. H. Bayne has joined the vessel as mate. , . . „ Mr. W. PENYBRYN TO I/OAD PHOSPHATES. The Norwegian steamer Penybryn, which played a prominent part In the. wreck of the Tahiti, is now en route from Shimonoseki to Nauru or Ocean Island to load phosphates for Australia or New Zealand. Since leaving Townsville last October with sugar for the United Kingdom, the Penybryn has also been to Baltimore, thence to the Pacific Coast and there loaded for Japan.

ULIMAROA AT SYDNEY. Cabled advice has been received that the Huddart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa reached Sydney at 8.30 a.m. yesterday from Wellington. She is to leave there again on Friday for Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday morning.

MONOWAI AT AUCKLAND. The Union Company’s liner Monowal arrived at Auckland early yesterday morning from Sydney. 'She is to leave there again on Friday on the return trip to Sydney. She will then take the Aorangi’s running in the Vancouver mail service for one voyage.
