HUTT VALLEY NEWS
A committee set up by Petone residents who pay Hutt River Board rates, has reported that it is "fully convinced of the injustice that at present exists. Regret is expressed' that the Petone Borough Council has not seen fit to accept the liability at present borne by ratepayers of Petone East, and so spread the burden over the whole borough. The conclusion reached by the committee whs that a petition should be presented to Parliament, praying for a commission to be set up to consider the question of having the whole river area revised in order to remove the anomalies that exist at present. Ihe present, however, was not considered an opportune time to present such a petition. Meanwhile the incoming Petone Borough Council is to be asked to give consideration to taking over the liability, the Hutt River Board being agreeable to such an arrangement.
As the result of the Poppy Day appeal £2B was collected in Petone.
