COSTLY HOLD-UP
Denniston Mine Trouble CAUSE OF THE DISPUTE Bv Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, April 30. Advice was received in Dunedin today that work was resumed at the Denniston mine on Monday. The mine was closed down on Easter Saturday owing to a dispute between the company and the Miners’ Union, as a consequence of which the men ceased work. The dispute related to employment in the power-house, the union holding that the men must be paid not less than a full day’s wage whether they worked a full day or not. Work has been resumed on the understanding that the matter will be referred to the disputes committee for settlement. As the wages paid at the mine average anything from £4OO to £5OO per day, and as work was stopped at the mine on April 4, some idea may be gained of the loss to'the miners and the community generally.
