RETIRING BANKER
Presentation from Clients LONG SERVICE ENDS Clients of the Te Aro branch of the Bank of Nev, Zealand met yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr. J. Fitzsimmons and make him a. presentation on his retirement from the position of manager. Mr. Fitzsimmons, who will be succeeded by Mr. F. Glasgow, late manager of the Dannevirke branch, has had 35 years’ service with the bank, for the last four years of which he has been manager at Te Aro.
Sir John Luke presided. He recalled the list of distinguished bankers who had preceded Mr. Fitzsimmons as manager at Te Aro, and referred to the development and progress in that locality after a branch had been opened there by theBank of New Zealand. Te Aro was no mean part of the city both in respect to its-wealth and capacity of its business
men. Mr. Fitzsimmons had always displayed a very wise and judicial attitude. A man of sympathy and integrity, he could sum up a customer as well as any man in New Zealand. His ever helpful advice had been appreciated by all. Sir John then presented to Mr. Fitzsimmons a handsome clock with a suitably engraved plate attached and a wallet of notes. Mr. D. Tripe, Mr. Fitzsimmons’s predecessor as manager, Mr. F. Rowe, one of the first customers, a number of other clients, and members of the bank’s staff, all referred to the advice and help they had received from Mr. Fitzsimmons. Mr. Fitzsimmons said that in his dealings with business people in Wellington he had never been let down. Their word had been their bond. He appreciated the presentations made to him and in the days to come he would always have something to look at to remind him of his many happy associations at Te Aro. The business people would find in Mr. Glasgow a man able to assist them, a man to whom they could take their ■troubles and one whose advice would always be respected. A hearty welcome was extended to Mr. Glasgow, who suitably replied. Incidentally, Mr. Glasgow is a well-known member of the New Zealand Rugby Union and a 1905 All Black. The gathering dispersed with cheers for Mr. Fitzsimmons and his successor. Mr. Fitzsimmons received a presentation from the staff of the bank on Wed nesday afternoon, when Mr. L. A. Greig, accountant, on behalf of the staff, asked, his acceptance of a silver tea service as an expression of their good wishes for the future.
