Sir, —I am very pleased that Mr. M. y. Luckie adheres to his decision to contest the Mayoralty. Had the Civic League and Ratepayers’ Association been allowed to influence that decision we would have had the Gilhertian situation of a small minority being allowed to dominate the Personally I am in favour of a city council electing its own Mayor, as in Great Britain, length of unbroken service being one of the determining factors, and if the position were similar here it would not be hard to discriminate who should receive the honour.—l aim „ Wellington, April 14.
