REPULSIVE SLAYER
Unpublishable Story Told GERMAN “RIPPER” CRIMES Dusseldorf, April 14. Revulsion from the ghastly details of Kuerten’s confessions is manifest throughout Germany in a deluge of requests for the suppression of the fiendish story. This resulted in the proceedings today being held in camera. Only a small number of journalists were admitted. This was at the request of the German Press Association, which is issuing brief summaries. Even much of this is unpublishable. Asked what caused his sadistic impulses, Kuerten explained that they were partly inherited from his father. Contributory influences were the bad experiences of his childhood. His parents and ten of a family slept in one room with shocking consequences. He confessed that at the age of nine he deliberately drowned two playmates in the Rhine. The prosecution says that it has evidence to convict Kuerten on seventyfour charges. Contrasted with yesterday’s selfpossession, Kuerten was alternately flushed and deathly pale, becoming very excited as he narrated his crimes.
