DEATH OF CYCLIST
Open Verdict Returned HIT BY MOTOR-CAR Finding that deceased died from injuries received in a collision with a motorcar driven by Ronald Keir Duncan, Mr. I. Salek, J.P., coroner, returned an open vervict at the inquest ou Hugh Arthur Sietze Kreyl (19), who was killed at Pctone on March 7. Deceased was riding a cycle with si companion when be was struck from behind. .... Constable 8. C. Higgius, iu ins evidence, said that be saw Duncan alter the accident, who stated Hies that he bad not seen Kreyl until he was right, on top of him, although tie had seen Kreyl s companion, who had a light on bis bicycle. When he saw him bouncing’ on the radiator after having knocked him down, he lost his head, and had travelled some distance before he applied his brakes, it was stated that the foot brake would not act, but that the hand brake would work all right. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey conducted the inquest, while Mr. O. C. Mazengarb appeared for Kreyl’s relatives, and .Mr. O’Leary and Mr. Rollings for the driver.
