MONDAY’S BOXING
Thomas v. Blay Probably no contest promoted locally has caused more controversy than that between Blay and Thomas, which is to take place on Monday next. Thomas was brought to New Zealand on what was regarded as a brilliant record ot successful contests against leading featherweights in the States, with a high ranking In tne list of champions. In his first contest ne failed to live up to his reputation, tor while It is generally admitted that he had a lead on points over Hughes, Thomas did not give the Impressive display expected from his American record. . A fortnight’s additional training, it is stated, has resulted in a marked improvement in Thomas’s speed and hitting powers, and this, combined with his determination to retrieve his reputation, should produce a contest of more than average interest when lie meets Blay on Monday night. . Five amateur preliminaries will precede the main event, in each of which good contests should be the order. Intending patrons who have not yet secured tickets are reminded that the box plan, will close on Monday afternoon.
