EMPIRE PUBLICITY
New Shop in Birmingham SUCCESS OF ENTERPRISE Dominion Special Service. Birmingham, January 26. A new Empire shop opened to-day in Birmingham for the display of Empire goods and the sale of small samples to the public. The Empire Marketing Board has taken premises in the main street of the city for six months, and each Dominion in turn will take over the shop for a display of its produce. The decision to organise a second shop was taken following the encouraging results of the Glasgow enterprise, where the first experiment in this new and practical publicity drive was conducted. More inquiries for Empire goods are being received by Glasgow grocers than was the case before the shop was organised. Three questions were recently put to the Glasgow Grocers’ and Provision Merchants’ Association by the board: Do more customers ask for Empire goods? Are members of the association. stocking more Empire lines? Are Empire goods easier to sell? The grocers replied that a definitely greater interest was taken by the public. With one. exception, all the members said that they were either stocking new lines or a larger quantity of the Empire goods already stocked. It was unanimously agreed that it was easier to sell Empire goods. New Zealand takes over from England and Wales in the shop early in February, and South Africa, Australia, India, Canada, Scotland and Southern Rhodesia will follow.
