WILFUL BURNING CHARGE
Taxi-driver in Trouble Bv 'Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 19. John Lewis Gunning (41), a taxi-driv-er, was charged in the Auckland Police Court to-day with wilfully setting fire to clothing so situated that lie knew a shop in Dominion Road belonging to 'William Scott Miller was likely to catch tire. While counsel applied for bail, the police objected and were about to state the circumstances of the alleged offence when counsel objected that this would prejudice the accused’s trial. The magistrate refused bail, but said that application could be made to him in chambers.
