OBITUARY

Mr. J. R. Samson In a private hospital the death occurred yesterday of Mr. John Robert \ Samson, 60 Glen Road, Kelburn, who, prior to his retirement from the Public Service, was Director of Repatriation. Born at Alexandra, Central Otago, 55 vears ago, he was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School, and entered the Public Service in the Government Life Insurance Department when 11. Ouring the war he was placed at the head of th. Repatriation Department, and upon its work being ended, he retired. The late Mr. Samson took an active part in the operations of the Royal Choral Union and the Baptist Church, and was choirmaster of the Vivian Stree. Baptist Church. Mr. J. Skottowe Webb Mr. J. Skottowe Webb, whose death occurred at Christchurch on Tuesday, was in his active career a Dunedin citizen of high standing (states a Special Service message). He was born at Dubedin and educated at the Otago Boys High School. For several years ne was engaged in the civil engineering department in the construction of Otago and Southland railways. In 18So he joined the service of the .National Insurance Company, rising to the position of manager of the Otago branch until his retirement in November, when he moved to Christchurch. He was a past Grand Master of the Masonic Order and an ex-member of the Anglican Synod. Mr. G. Kettlewell After a short illness the death occurred at Alelbourne on Alarch 11 of Air. George Kettlewell, who was for many vears well known in the wool trade and in commercial circles in Australia and New Zealand. He was born in Yorkshire, and his early training was in the wool industry. As a young man he came to New Zealand and was engaged here for a jew years as a wool buyer and merchant. Mr. kettlewell went io Australia in 18J4, and became intimately associated with the wool trade in Alelbourne. He was chairman of directors of the Lincoln Mills of Australia Ltd., and was a member of tbe State wool committee which was appointed soon after the outbreak of war. He was also for a number of vears a director of the Commercial Bank lif Australia Ltd. Mr. Kettlewcll leaves a widow and a family of four.
