WILL IMPROVE HEALTH

Daylight Saving Extension Convinced that an extension of daylight saving from March 15 until the end of April will improve the health and brighten the lives of people in an exceptionally adverse period, the New Zealand branch pf the British Medical Association, at its annual meeting yesterday, urged the Government to give effect to such an extension. This was done in a resolution, passed unanimously, which read as follows: “The New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association urges the Government to extend the period of daylight saving from March 15 to the end of April as a matter of urgen'ey and in the interest of public health. The weather this year has been unseasonable and the summer late in appearing, and there has been unusual nervous strain and anxiety on account of adverse economic conditions followed by the devastating earthquake, so that the physical well-being of the people will benefit materially by the extra daylight which will also assist the residents and workmen in the stricken area to improve living conditions. If, as we are sure, the extension of daylight will improve the health and brighten the lives of people in an exceptionally adverse period, then this consideration should outweigh any conceivable objections to the proposal.” -•
