N.Z. Championships BRIDSON RETAINS 220 Has Easy Win in 880 Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, March 5. In beautiful weather, before a crowd of 1500 enthusiasts, the second night of the New Zealand .swimming championships was opened. AU the events were got off without delay. In the 220 yards men’s championship Bridson, the holder of the title, hit the water ahead, of the field, and steadily increased his lead all the way. He won from Stokes by seven yards. Enwright spurted in the last lap to take third place from Claridge. Only two competitors started m the 100 yards women’s hackstroke championship. N. Stratton, the holder of the title, was beaten by four yards by M. Farquhar (Auckland) in a slow, even race. In the 220 yards men’s breaststroke championship, the holder, L. Smith (Wanganui), won easily by 15 yards. Spry (Wellington) was second all the way, Haworth (Wanganui) narrowly taking third place from Lowe (Auckland). The three competitors for the 440 yards women’s championship separated early at half-way E. Champion (Auckland) leading by 15 yards at half-way, with D. Anderson (Wanganui), followed by S. Bracefield (South Canterbury). Won by 30 yards, with 50 yards between second and third. Bridson repeated his performance m the 880 yards men’s championship. Taking the lead from the plunge, he swum easily and increased his lead effortlessly. He won by 30 yards in fairly fast time. . , The second section of the women s championship dive was held, J.
