Thief Gets Light Sentence Dominion Special Service. Masterton, March 5. “I want you to appreciate that I am giving you a chance,” said his Honour Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court this morning when imposing a sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment, to run concurrently with sentences now being served, on Jack Gordon, a bootmaker, found guilty of stealing jewellery from a Carterton residence. . “I did my best with the jury but failed,” said Gordon, who conducted his own defence, to his Honour. “You didn’t make a bad try,” observed his Honour.
