Palmerston Cases

Palmerston North, February 2.

By-law cases occupied the attention of Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court this morning. Lawrence Inglis was fined 10/- and 10/costs for leaving a train while in motion. Defendant had boarded the Limited to give a letter to a passenger, and had left the train while it was gathering speed. “It is a dangerous practice,” said his Worship, in fining Inglis. ’Leaving a car stationary without lights cost William Welton £1 and 10/- costs. William Park, a barman, was fined £2 and 10/- costs for unlawfully supplying liquor. A fine of 10/- and 10/- costs was Imposed on Charles Bolstad for having no rear footrests on his motor-cycle. A similar penalty was Inflicted on defendant for having .no driver’s license. Exceeding the speed limit over an intersection cost H. Brownrigg £1 and 12/costs. '•

Having no driver’s license cost P. Holland 5/- and 12/- costs. A fine of £lO was imposed on B. P, Mitehell for having no heavy traffic license. “This defendant seems to run his lorry on fines. Fines are cheaper than the license fees," said the traffic inspector, Mr. Paton, when asking for a substantial penalty. B. Neighbour and A. H. Odlln were fined 10/- and 10/- costs for cycling on footpaths. Leaving a car parked on a parking stand for longer than the allotted time, cost Brian Connell 5/- and 12/- costs.
