WHISKERS ON FIRE

A children’s Christmas party in the Presbyterian Church, Westlake (Canberra), on Christmas Night, had au unfortunate ending. John Brander, of Westlake, who was impersonating Father Christmas, was smoking a cigarette when he set fire to the cotton wool which formed his whiskers. He was severely burned about the face, and had to be taken to the Canberra Hospital for treatment. The party broke up when it wns found that the toys ordered had not arrived.
