War Memorial Inscription

Sir, —In passing the memorial near Parliament House recently I noticed one or two mistakes in the punctuation of the inscription on the stone. Surely a city the size of Wellington's justified in expecting that this inscription should be correctly punctuated?—l am, etc., A VISITOR FROM THE NORTH.

[The punctuation to that portion of a verse of “The Dead,” in a 'published volume containing the work of Rupert Brooke, is given as follows: “These laid the world away; poured out the red Sweet wine of youth; gave up the years to be Of work and joy, and that unhoped serene, That men call age; and those who would have been, Their sons, they gave, their immortality.” The inscription on the monument omits all punctuation except two commas —after “youth” and “age” respectively.]
