Melanesian Mission Ship.—The Southern Cross, the Melanesian Mission Ship, which makes two voyages around the Islands each year. She is the fifth mission ship in succession to bear the name Southern Cross. The first was a 70-ton schooner sent out in 1855. The present steamer, of 400 tons, was launched in 1903. When funds are available she is to be replaced by a new vessel.
