INTO THE WILDS

Expedition in Australia

FAR-OFF ARNHEM LAND

Dominion Special Service.

Sydney, January 15.

The Australian Commonwealth Railway Department announces that a tender has been accepted for the motor transport and catering for the i big-game hunting parties to visit Arnheim Land during the coming winter months. Arnhem Land is one of the few remaining places of the world which may be truly described as wild country. It is a part of North Australia which is right off the beaten track, and lies between the Mary and Roper Rivers, with the Gulf of Carpentaria on one side and the Arafura Sea on another. The parties, which will leave on June 11 and August 6, will consist of from six to ten persons travelling by train to Alice Springs, whence they will journey overland by powerful cars, fully equipped for bush transport, with all conveniences for camping in an uninhabited territory. The gap of 650 miles between the railheads at Alice Springs and Birduni will be negotiated in 64 days, which will allow ample opportunity for sight-seeing, and for ■ shooting at various localities where game will be encountered. . It is expected that two expeditions will be organised from Southern Australia, in addition to one from America and one from Great Britain.
