OBITUARY

Mrs. W, Pocock

The death is reported from Pahiatua of a' well-known Hawke’s Bay resident, Mrs. Wilhelmina Pocock, aged 66 years (states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton). The late Mrs. Pocock took seriously ill while visiting her daughter, Mrs. P. A. Bisset, at Pahiatua. She was born in Edinburgh and came out to New Zealand with her parents as a young girl. The family settled at Napier,, where deceased was later married to the late Mr. E. J. Pocock. Mr. Pocock managed the Mangatarata Station at Waipukurau for many years. Later the couple moved to Makotuku, where Mr. Pocock died in 1912. Mrs. Pocock resided at Napier for the next 17 years, and latterly made her home in Auckland. She is survived by two sons, Messrs. E. J. (Wellington) and W. Pocock (Auckland), and two daughters, Mrs. P. A. Bisset (Pahiatua) and Miss M. Pocock (lyellington).

Mrs. H. Stokes The death occurred on Sunday of Mrs. H. Stokes, of Pownall Street, a resident of Masterton for the past 19 years (states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton). The late Mrs. Stokes, who was 64 years of age, was the second daughter of the late Mr. George Todd, of White , Rock, North Canterbury, and was the * first baby girl christened in the Merivale Church, Christchurch. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. T. H. Bitmead, of Canterbury, and five > brothers and three sisters.

Mr. J. G. Anderson The death was reported yesterday of Mr. J. Grimsdale Anderson, of Maha'u, Pelorus Sound, states a Press Association message from Blenheim. A week ago a log rolled on him and he suffered from shock~and bruises. His death was unexpected, as he appeared to be recovering.

Mr. Anderson was a prominent settler and took a leading part in the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, of which he was vice-president for some time.

Mr. H. Goodier

An old resident of Masterton, Mr, Hugh Goodier, passed away on Sunday at the age of 81, states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton. He was a native of Chritroe, Lancashire, England, and is survived by his daughter, Mrs. E. Sims, of Kiripunl. and a number of relatives in the Old Country.
