HOSPITAL STAFF PAY

Reduction Proposals NO EFFECT ON NURSES Dominion Special Service. Auckland, January 26. The decision of the Whangarei Hospital Board on January 13 is to obtain a report from its finance committee on the question of making a cut in the salaries of the hospital staff following an inquiry on the subject from the Ashburton Hospital Board, has given rise to the belief that similar action is contemplated by the Auckland Hospital Board. “From correspondence appearing in the Press there seems to be an impression that a reduction in nurses’ salaries is contemplated, but as far as the Auckland Board is concerned there has been no suggestion of the kind.” said Mr. Wallace, chairman of the board. “My personal feelings are that if it came to a question of salary reductions, the nurses would be the last to be affected."
