CARR SPEAKS OUT
Resignation from Notts “COME INTO THE OPEN” (Rec. December 28, 5.5 p.m.). London, December 27. Commenting on a statement that the Nottinghamshire cricket committee has asked him to resign the captaincy of the county team, A. W. Carr says that his answer hints at a fiat refusal
“If they want to sack me, why don’t they come out into the open and say so?” he observes. “I am not hurt because, it seems, they want to depose me, but I object to the underhand way somebody is trying to do
it. \ “I have never felt more qualified to lead a team,” he added. “I shall certainly exercise my birth qualification and play for Surrey if necessary.’’ Arthur William Carr was captain of the English team in the four Test matches against Australia in 1926. He played for Notts from the time he was a schoolboy, captaining the county team in 1919. He has had many notable successes as a batsman.
