Trouble on Boxing Day TWO PAIRS CONVICTED Central figures in a street fight which occurred on Boxing Day, Thomas Slavin, aged 29, and John James Dixon, aged 29, both seafaring men, were convicted and discharged in the Police Court on Saturday morning, when charged with the offence before Messrs. A. Longmore and I. Salek, J.P.’s. “About. 8\ o’clock last evening,” said Senior-Sergeant Edwards, “these men were having a stand-up fight in Jervois Quay. Their coats, shirts and waistcoats were off and they were having a good go. They said the fight was the outcome of a friendly argument.” Another Fight. George Evans, aged 30, and Albert Thomas Henderson, aged 23, were participants in a fight that occurred in Courtenay Place at 10.55 a.m. on Boxing Day. Each was fined 10/- and costs. Drunken Motor-Cyclist. A fine of £5, and costs was imposed on Alexander Young, aged 22, for being drunk in charge of a motor-cycle in Dixon Street. The police explained that Constable Grant*saw Young at 2.40 p.m. on Boxing Day leave some friends and walk across the street toward a motorcycle in an advanced state of intoxication. Young tried to start the machine and the constable went over and arrested him. Several Remands. Thomas James, aged 18, a labourer, was charged with being armed with an offensive weapon and assaulting, Bryan Frederick Smuts Kennedy, with intent to rob. He was remanded until tomorrow. Leonard Ruxton Armstrong, for being in arrears with maintenance payments, was remanded until Saturday next. William Leslie Mudgway, aged 20, was charged with stealing a motor-cycle belonging to Arthur Walter Ewart. He ■was remanded until Saturday. There was still another remand in the case of William Thomas Moat, aged 45, a salesman, who was charged with attempting to break and enter the SelfHelp Groceries Association at Alicetown, with intent to commit theft. He is to appear on Saturday.
