Second Round Results By Telegraph.—Press Association Rotorua, December 27. The first round games of the New Zealand chess tourney resulted as follows:— Erskine beat Miller, Severne beat Greenfield, Gyles beat Pleasants, Fairburn beat Herbert, Maddox drew with Kummer, Kelling beat Grierson, Erskine beat Grierson. Second round results are as tollow: Kelling beat Kummer, Gyles beat Miller, Pleasants beat Herbert, Severne beat Fairburn, Maddox beat Greenfield. Australian Tourney Opens Melbourne, December 27. The Australian chess championship tourney opened with a dozen competitors from all States except Queensland and South Australia. Wins were scored in the first round by Ingledew (Tasmania), Crakanthorp and Goldstein (New South Wales), and Watson (Victoria).
