PETONE BEACH CARNIVAL

With exceptionally fine- weather favouring it on its first two days, the Petone beach* carnival being held by the I etone Beautifying Society is meeting with a success that promises well for the effort, to raise funds to finance further work in improving the appearance of the town, and especially the beach. The carnival is exceedingly popular with the children, and perhaps the “best seller” there so far, among the numerous attractions, is the ice cream. T.he merry-go-round and the chairoplane both did good trade again on Saturday, while the numerous other shows which demand a certain skill in various seemingly simple operations in order to procure chocolates, drew consistently large fields ot competitors. There was also dancing in the pavilion on Saturday night. The, carnival will continue tor some time yet—over the New Year —and undoubtedly it offers a strong attraction.
