CHRISTMAS CHEER

Members of the various junior Ked Cross circles have been busy lately preparing Christmas cheer for those less fortunate than themselves, and as a result of their labours there will be many , happy hearts on Christmas Day.' An appeal was made for toys, and inembers of the Junior Red Cross have been busy at the rooms for some-days redressing dolls, mending and re-covering books, and the results .were to be seen yesterday in a room full of lovely toys; there was a- dolls’ house, ■ many dolls of all sizes, table games, mechanical toys, and-quantities of books, and these were ail parcelled up and will be. delivered, by the boys and girls themselves to-day; to fifty or more families where there are several children. In addition to this, Miss Dissington received £5O from, different circles for Christmas cheer, and in consequence over thirty families (where there ane not less than five children) will .receive a Christmas dinher consisting of meat'andi vegetables, with fruit, and many . will receive gifts of clothing and others groceries. The money, has been raised by the circles by means of concerts and bazaars as well as by direct giving, and the results should be .most gratifying to the young philanthropists. Contributions have been received by Miss Jassington from circles all over New Zealand, but. these circles are each doing the same in their own districts carrying out the Red Cross ideal'of caring for others.
