Wills in action at the Petone sports on Saturday 'afternoon will have tho opportunity of watching him at the Basin Reserve tonight at the sports meeting which begins there at 6 p.m. Wills was making .bis first appearance at Petone on Saturday, and impressed everyone as a tine mile runner. He Came' to; New Zealand recently from Queensland, and has won in Australia State championships over 10,000 metres, three miles and a mile. He has twice run second to J. A. Martin, who put up great performances some time tgo. Wills should be an acquisition to Wellington athletics.' He runs now for the Kiwi club, aud will be in the mile and half-mile events to-night. Against him in the mile will be S. McKinnon, d promising runner, who was placed last Monday in the mile and a half and whose best distance is the mile. A. Barclay, the well-known Brooklyn Harrier member, will be another contender. In the lialf-mile Wills is again entered, alongwith Williamson, who has won two 880’s, come third in another, and won a 600, yard event already this season. , In the 220 yards open to-night, C. Jenkins, the outstanding scratch man, will be competing. With him will. be C. IS. Robins, an ex-professional, who belongs now to the Kiwi club. Most of the cracks, however, ate not entered in the handicaps, and are. waiting instead for the Heenan Baton relay, one- <of this evening’s most, important events, in which-teams from the Wellington, Athletic, Olympic and University clubs are to compete. Of the. women, Miss C. Millar, Miss J. Murray, and Miss E. Sharp, who had such a-popular win last week, are competing. H.-Eades, the fast young junior who romped home in both the beat and final of the 220 three weeks ago, is reappearing on the track to-night.
