WEDDING
BAYLY—SHANKS. The wedding was solemnised at St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, on Friday, by the Ven. Archdeacon Hansell, of Olga Winnie, daughter of Mr. A. H. and the late Mrs. Shanks, of Christchurch, to Edward, son of Mr. E. Bayly. of Christchurch. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was attired in a frock in pale shades of pink, blue and green flowered chiffon, ankle-length, with fitting bodice and long, tight sleeves. Her drooping hat was of pale blue felt, and kid shoes were worn to tone. She carried a bouquet in pale pink tones. The bride was attended by Miss Gwendolen Owen, whose sleeveless frock was of apple green flowered georgette, ankle-length, with a cape at the back, worn with a wide picture hat of pale greep felt. Her shoes were of green kid, and she carried a bouquet in deeper tones of pink than that of the bride, with satin streamers. Mr. C. McLean acted as best man. After the ceremony a few intimate friends were received at “The Willows” by the bridesmaid. Mrs. Bayly’s travelling frock was of blue crepe-suede, with brown tweed coat trimmed with fur. Her brown felt hat was trimmed in blue and brown shades, and brown lizzard-skin shoes were worn. Mrs. Watkinson, who formerly managed the Midland Hotel, Masterton, and before that the Geyser Hotel, Rotorua, has recently been appointed manageress of : :The Hermitage,” Mount Cook. At this time of the year we favour tennis and sports frocks for many occasions, and no more useful or smart garment exists provided the cut- and material is correct. Agnes Samson, Customhouse Quay, features sports, dresses this week in different fabrics. A canary-coloured Mucelesfleld crepe has a scalloped front to the bodice which buttons to the waistline to meet a narrow stitched belt The skirt Is flared. A striped canary and green Macelesfleld crepe is used for a long-sleeved dress trimmed with yellow bone buttons, and the skirt has insets to’form the flared line. Canary yellow striped silk is used again to make an attractive two-piece. The .sleeveless dress has a pointed hip-yoke and the skirt is pleated here and there. The medium-length coat has pockets. A lovely French frock of primrose yellow crepe de chine has plastures of fine pleats, much fine handiwork, and a narrow belt which ties at the back. With this goes a primrose Angora wool cardigan coat bound with the yellow crepe de chine.—Advt.
